Jester is an independent stand-up comedy platform created by Alex Arias, a longtime fan of stand-up. It brings comedians, specials, albums, podcasts, live shows, and comedy clubs all together in one place, making it easier to discover comedy and keep up with the comedians you love.
Why Jester exists
For years, following stand-up meant searching in a dozen different places.
Specials: Finding an older special could mean digging through Google, streaming services, YouTube, and old articles.
Live comedy: Keeping up with live comedy meant checking individual club calendars every few weeks and still occasionally discovering a show after it had sold out.
Podcasts: A great podcast appearance could introduce you to a comedian, then leave you searching all over to find their other work.
None of it was impossible to find. It was just scattered everywhere.
Jester was built to bring those pieces together. One place to discover a comedian and explore their specials, albums, podcast appearances, upcoming shows, and more.
It was something Alex wanted for years and assumed someone would eventually build. When nobody did, he decided to build it himself.
Jester began in August 2023 and has grown far beyond what he imagined when he started.
Built for fans and comedians alike
The comedy world moves quickly, and it’s easy to miss a release or forget to watch something.
Specials can become surprisingly difficult to find only months after they are released. Podcast appearances disappear into huge back catalogs. Tour dates are spread across club websites, ticketing platforms, and social media.
For Fans: Jester makes all of that easier to discover and follow.
For Comedians: It creates one place where their work can stay connected to them, old and new, and continue having their projects reach people long after the initial promotion ends.
A note from Alex
The idea behind Jester is still the same one that made me start building it in 2023: stand-up deserves a place of its own.
A place where you can discover someone through a podcast and immediately find their specials. Where an older special can be just as easy to find as one released yesterday. Where you can see what’s happening at comedy clubs around you without checking every venue individually.
Jester has grown a lot since the first version, and there is still much more I want it to become. It continues to be shaped by the fans, comedians, clubs, and people in comedy who use it and tell me what could be better.
The goal isn’t to change stand-up. It’s to make the incredible amount of comedy already out there easier to find, follow, and enjoy.
